Privacy Policy
In short: Tempest Isles has no accounts, ads, analytics or cookies. Your scores and sound setting stay in your own browser. If you choose to leave a tip, the payment is handled by Stripe.
Who we are
Tempest Isles is a free, open-source browser game made by Driftwood Games, an independent developer. In this policy, “we” means Driftwood Games.
What the game stores on your device
The game saves two small items in your browser’s local storage so they are remembered between visits:
tempest-isles-scores: your won and lost count for each difficulty level.tempest-isles-muted: whether you turned sound off.
These never leave your device and are never sent to us. You can erase them at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
What we do not collect
Playing requires no sign-up, and there are no ads, analytics or cookies. The game itself never collects your name, email address or anything about how you play. (If you leave a tip, see Tips below.)
Services that see basic connection data
Like every website, loading the game means your browser sends standard request information (such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested) to the service that delivers it. Render hosts the game, through its content delivery network provider, Cloudflare, and may keep standard server logs. See the Render privacy policy. The game’s fonts and other files are all served from the same site, so no other company is contacted while you play. We do not use this information to identify you.
The game does no cross-site tracking and lets no third party do so, so there is nothing for “Do Not Track” browser signals to turn off.
Tips
Tips are optional and unlock nothing. If you choose to leave one, you are taken to a checkout page run by Stripe, which collects and processes your payment details under the Stripe privacy policy. If you pay with Link, Apple Pay or your bank (such as Bancontact or EPS), that provider also processes your information under its own privacy policy.
Stripe shares details of the payment with us: the amount and date, your email address, the name and billing country or postal code you entered, and limited payment details (for cards, the brand, last four digits, expiry date and issuing country; for other methods, similar identifiers such as a bank name and last four digits). Stripe also shows us fraud-screening signals, such as the approximate location of the IP address used. We never see your full card or account number.
We use these details only to keep records of the tip, handle refunds or questions, prevent fraud, and meet tax and accounting obligations. We do not sell or share your personal information, use it for advertising, or add you to a mailing list. Payment records are kept for as long as tax law requires (generally up to seven years) and then deleted.
Links to other sites
The game links to GitHub (for the source code and bug reports), to Stripe (for tips) and to the Driftwood Games website. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you visit them.
Children
The game itself collects no personal information from anyone, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Children should ask a parent before emailing us. Tips should only be left by adults or with a parent’s permission. If a child tipped without permission, contact us within 60 days and we will refund it (see the terms).
Your choices
You can clear the game’s saved data in your browser at any time. If you left a tip, you can ask what information we hold about it, or ask us to correct or delete it (apart from records tax law requires us to keep). See Contact below.
If you are in the EU or UK: connection data is processed for our legitimate interest in delivering the site, and tip records are processed to complete your payment and meet legal obligations. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. Our service providers may process data in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update it on this page and change the effective date above. Its full history is public in the game’s source code.
